Niagara Health says staffing shortages means reduction of 24/7 service in St. Catharines
A reduction in the hours of intake service of the Withdrawal Management Service of the St. Catharines hospital.
Niagara Health says it is changing the hours from around the clock to Monday to Sunday, 8 to 5pm, due to staffing shortages.
The organization adds it is aggressively working to hire more people, across Niagara Health, particularly in the mental health and addiction programs.
Niagara Health also says staff can be at risk without enough help, especially when it was open around the clock, and this decision was based on best practices at other withdrawal management centres provincewide.
The new hours will ensure admitted patients will get the care they need.
Anyone needing care outside the new intake hours is asked to go to the emergency ward.
