Widening of McLeod Road on the Way

Provincial government investing millions, money going to the Region, and the City, leading to homes built

Some major changes are coming to McLeod Road in Niagara Falls.

The provincial government is providing $11-million to the Niagara region, and, almost $4.8-million to the City of Niagara Falls to rebuild and widen the road.

The government says this will also lead to the construction of up to 7,908 new homes for the city.

The money comes from the Municipal Housing Infrastructure program, which includes $400-million to repair and maintain roads and bridges province-wide.

It's a major investment that Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati says is not sexy, or makes headlines often, but is necessary.

Local municipal and provincial politicians met at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference this week, discussing priorities for Niagara.

No word from the government when the work is to start.
