Veterans Honoured with Crosswalks

City of St. Catharines looking into it, Lincoln put one up, as did Hamilton and Chatham

Expect to see some enhanced crosswalks in St. Catharines, honouring veterans, in time for Remembrance Day next year.

There'll be community consultation over the year to sort out where and how they should look.

Councillor Bill Phillips, honouring one in Hamilton, considered possible sites.  "Across towards city hall, perhaps from the courthouse, I think it was, was a great idea.  Possibly, if we have ones similar to that, because, in time, we're going to have a civic square out there."

Councillor Kevin Townsend noted other cities are doing it.

"I see it also the City of Chatham did this near their cenotaph, and I think it's just a great way to pay tribute to those who've sacrificed their lives for our great country."

The city also wants to enhance the visibility of crosswalks to slow traffic down.

The Town of Lincoln has installed a similar crosswalk at Fleming Square honour veterans.
