Vaccines Coming to Niagara This Week

Niagara Health says the region can expect delivery of the Pfizer vaccine either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Together with Niagara Region Public Health and Emergency Services, vaccines will first be administered to priority populations identified by the provincial government in the first phase of their vaccination plan.

Niagara Health says that the first doses will go to frontline healthcare workers in long-term care homes, high-risk retirement homes and hospitals.

They say that a vaccine clinic will be held in St. Catharines, followed by clinics in Niagara Falls, Welland, and/or other sites.

Additionally, teams will be deployed to issue vaccines to residents at long-term care homes and retirement homes.

Dr. Mustafa Hirji, Medical Officer of Health and Commissioner (Acting), Niagara Region Public Health and Emergency Services, says this is good news for the community.

"It is a relief that vaccines are finally arriving in Niagara. Throughout this pandemic, residents of long-term care homes and retirement homes have suffered the brunt of this pandemic."
