Members will have till January 4th 2022 to be vaccinated.
Niagara Regional Police will be implementing a vaccination policy for members effective January 4th.
Citing rising case counts in the Province and Niagara, coupled with concerns over new variants the police service has determined that a vaccination policy will ensure the on-going health and safety of its members as well as the communities they serve.
"This policy is one piece of the puzzle to reassure our members as well as members of the public" says Acting Chief of Police Brett Flynn.
Members will be required to provide proof of vaccination status by December 17, 2021.
The NRP says those members that can't be vaccinated due to a protected ground will be accommodated.
Those who refuse to disclose their vaccination status, or have chosen not to receive the vaccine will be required to demonstrate negative results from a rapid-antigen test.
After January 4th, members who elect either not to be vaccinated or to disclose their vaccination status and who decline to be tested will be placed on non-disciplinary unpaid leave.
