Unions Use Greek Mythology for Message

They compare Premier Ford's health care plans with a Trojan Horse

As you drive around the region today, you might a noticed a tall, wooden Trojan Horse, towed on a trailer.

That's from the Ontario Council of Hospital Union, and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, in raising awareness of the risks of privatization of hospitals by the Ford government.

The union's 1st VP, Kevin Cook, tells us the Trojan Horse goes back to Greek mythology.  "The Greeks presented this gift to the City of Troy, and there were soldiers in that horse, and when the city was sleeping, they destroyed that city.  And that's what we're saying, the Ford government is presenting privatization as a gift."

He says Premier Ford is not telling the truth about privatization, that it hurts services.

He tells us what one person told them in another city.

"They were on a waiting list to get hip surgery, and the doctor suggested for a better quality of life to go to a private clinic.  They were charged $8,000, and that was just for the surgery.  People are having to get loans."

He says hospitals being built now and training med students is not enough, solutions are needed now.
