Pair say council's refusal to stop a performance by comedian Jeff Dunham was the final straw.
Two members of the St. Catharines anti-racism committee have stepped down after council refused to stop a performance by comedian Jeff Dunham.
According to the Standard, committee members Vicki-Lynn Smith and Erica Williams sent a letter to Mayor Walter Sendzik and city council.
The letter says the committee has worked hard to fight racism in St. Catharines, but circumstances have prevented the committee from reaching its full potential.
Smith says council's decision against a recommendation to consider cancelling the show at the Meridian Centre was a breaking point.
Dunham uses ventriloquism in his act, and has faced criticism for creating characters that rely on racial stereotypes.
