A new theatre will be developed at the future West Niagara Secondary School in Lincoln.
The Town has agreed to commit $200,000 to the project.
In return, in partnership with the DSBN, the Town will get specific access to cultural and recreation amenities, and a commitment to collaborate on the future of the Beamsville Secondary School Site.
The West Niagara Secondary School is slated to open in 2022.
The theatre will be a shared asset between the school and the community.
Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton is excited about the project.
"The new school and theatre will enrich the lives of not only the students, but also Lincoln as a whole while supporting Council priorities of a connected and vibrant community."
The DSBN has committed $4.2 million of the required $6.8 million for the building of the new school.
A campaign has been launched for the remaining $2.6 million by The Friends of the Arts in West Niagara committee.
The $2.6 million will cover the cost of the theatre.
Over 1,500 kids are expected to attend the new school.
It will accommodate students from the now-closed South Lincoln Secondary School and the soon to be closed Grimsby Secondary and Beamsville District Secondary School.
The theatre will include seating for 750 people and will be used for productions as well as public and corporate events.
