Taser Used to Arrest Man in St. Catharines

Police called after complaints man was threatening women in establishment

A disturbance in a downtown St. Catharines establishment has led to charges against a local man.

Police were called around 1:30 this morning to the St. Paul and James Street area, concerning someone who wasn't wanted in the area.

Police learned a man was threatening women employees and customers, and when he was told by police to leave, he started assaulting them without cause.

Police add the suspect kept fighting, and resisting arrest, until a taser was used.

The officers suffered minor injuries.

Police say 59-year old Melville R Jarrett of St. Catharines has a bail hearing today in St. Catharines.

He is charged with:

  • Assault a Peace Officer (2 Counts)
  • Resist Arrest
  • Fail to Leave Premises when Directed
