With the lifting of the states of emergency in Fort Erie, Port Colborne and Wainfleet, the Niagara Region followed suit and officially ended its declaration yesterday.

The Christmas weekend blizzard hit southern municipalities along Lake Erie extremely hard with freezing temperatures, large quantities of snow, strong winds and flooding resulting in power outages, stranded vehicles and impacts on roads and infrastructure.
Wind gusts of 105 to 125 km/h were recorded in Port Colborne Friday, with sustained speeds of 84 to 99 km/h, according to Environment Canada.
