The St. Catharines Public Library is no longer charging late fees for items checked out on child, teen or senior cards.
Effective today, these groups will only have to pay fees for lost and damaged items.
The library made the change in order to reduce barriers to library access.
The SCPL plans to extend the fine freedom to adults in the future.
However, since there are budgetary implications, a staggered approach has been applied.
Parents will still face overdue fees if children's items were checked out on their card instead of the child's.
Seniors, kids and teens with existing fines can have them cleared by calling 905-688-6103 ext. 210 or email info@myscpl.ca.
