St. Catharines Indoor Tennis Courts Cancelled

The city says construction costs and high interest rates caused Tennis Clubs of Canada to back out, will keep looking for new opportunities

High construction costs and interest rates have killed plans to build a new indoor tennis facility in St. Catharines.

The city tells us it was ready to partner with Tennis Clubs of Canada, St. Catharines Tennis Alliance and Merritton Lions Club, but those challenges have caused Tennis Clubs of Canada to back out of a licence agreement to build.

The city adds it will try again if opportunity presents itself.

However, a 4th court is being added at Community Park, with St. Catharines Tennis Alliance financially helping with that, and the three existing courts are being upgraded.  The tennis court lights will also be replaced.

Construction is expected to start anytime now.

City staff will also keep working with Tennis Canada to fund outdoor tennis court replacements.
