St. Catharines Fire Warning About A Pair of Scams

Fire officials urge residents to be cautious if anyone tries to sell products or asks for a donation

Fire officials says they have been made aware of two scams.

The first involves individuals going door to door claiming they are from the fire department asking to inspect smoke alarms.

Once inside a home they attempt to sell smoke alarms and contractual alarm inspection services.

In the other scam, people have reported getting phones calls from the fire department asking for a donation.

Fire Services says it never offers contractual services, and never solicits money over the phone.

As well if the fire department discovers a home without an alarm, they  will offer the owner a new one at a cost,

However, payment is never accepted on site, instead homeowners are directed to make payment at the City’s Fire Prevention office.
