Between 15 and 25 mm possible today
The rainfall warning that was in effect for Niagara has been downgraded to a special weather statement.
Environment Canada says 15 to 25 mm of rainfall is expected today into tonight.
The weather office also warns flooding is possible, as the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb the rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) has issued a Flood Watch for the region.
The NPCA says the rain combined with melting snow and saturated ground will cause significant runoff to local watercourses.
Flooding is expected in low-lying areas, and water levels are expected to remain elevated for several days.
Residents are urged to stay clear of creeks and rivers at this time due to slippery slopes, unstable ice and elevated water levels.
As well, drivers are warned to stay away from flooded roadways, as there could be hidden dangers.
