South Niagara Under Blizzard Warning, North Niagara Under Winter Storm Warning

Strong winds and heavy snow expected

Environment Canada is encouraging you not to travel tomorrow if possible.

South Niagara is under a blizzard warning, and north Niagara is under a winter storm warning.

The weather office says south Niagara will see crippling blizzard conditions starting tomorrow.

Winds will hit 100 to 120 km/h, and 15 to 30 cm of snow is expected by Sunday morning.

Locally higher amounts are possible, especially around Fort Erie.

Temperatures are also expected to plummet tomorrow, with windchill values around minus 20.

There could also be a flash freeze, resulting in icy and slippery surfaces.

In north Niagara, the weather office is calling for wind gusts between 90 and 100 km/h tomorrow, as well as about 5 to 15 cm of snow by tomorrow night.

The strong winds and snow are expected to develop tomorrow morning and continue into Saturday.

North Niagara could also see a flash freeze tomorrow.

Both areas can expect rain this afternoon heading into tonight.

If you do head out, you're encouraged to dress warmly, and keep an emergency kit with supplies such as medicine, food, water and a first aid kit handy.
