Seniors Invited to Learn About Avoiding Scams

Business and Professional Women of Niagara Falls hosts this on Wednesday

Seniors in Niagara are encouraged to attend a meeting in Niagara Falls next week, on how to avoid scams, also learn to deal with mental health, stress and anger.

Nancy Broerse is with Business and Professional Women of Niagara Falls, and says they'll have special speakers talk about these issues at the Victoria Avenue library on Wednesday evening, from 5 to 7:30.

She adds knowledge is power in avoiding identity theft.  "I had a good friend who was ill with cancer, and before she died, she got scammed big time.  She said 'He sounded like a nice man.'  Well, yes, they all sound like a nice man, but they're not being very nice, they're just out there for your money."

She also says stress is playing a big part, when looking at the prevalent mood of people these days.  "Through politics, and people are being squeezed for high grocery bills, high gas bills, and housing is bad... so people are really stressed, and get angry, and rightly so."

She says it's free, but donations of feminine hygiene products will be handed to Project Share.

Registration is today, but they can consider late arrivals.
