She served as a military nurse in the World War II, and now she's an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association Niagara Region.
Madeline Shavalier was aboard S.S. Santa Elena in November of 1943, when the ship was bombed by a German aircraft.
She was among approximately 1,600 people who rescued at sea by the S.S Monterey, and she continued on as a nurse in Italy.
Shavalier is now 104-years-old and she was honoured here in Niagara last week.
