Residents Reminded to Get Cars Ready For Winter

We spoke to Bill Marr of Garrison Automotive in Fort Erie about getting your vehicle prepared for the upcoming winter.

Tis' the season to get your car ready for winter.

We spoke to Bill Marr of Garrison Automotive, who says the most important thing you can do to prepare your car the winter months is put on winter tires and change the oil as necessary.

He notes the most common mistake drivers make when caring for their vehicles in winter is not checking the air pressure in their tires often enough.

"What's going to happen is as the temperature gets colder, your air pressures are going to drop. And when they drop, it's going to leave your tire under-inflated, which is going to cause some problems. So it's really important that as the temperature drops, make sure your air pressure gets checked on a regular basis."

Marr also says it's important to wash your car during winter, as the salt and brine on the roads can be bad for both the vehicle and its paint.

As well, he recommends keeping a safety kit, a blanket and a candle in the car, keeping the gas tank at least half full, replacing your wiper blades, and ensuring you have enough washer fluid during winter.
