Region Sorting Out Tow Truck Dispatching

There's been some confusion over who calls for tow trucks to collision sites

Bit of confusion at the Niagara region over who dispatches tow trucks to collisions or impounds.

The region was controlling a list of who the police call, until the province changed that, giving it back to police.

However, Councillor Pat Chiocchio, and council, didn't know it was given back to police, after two local trucking companies told council they want stricter control.  "If that was communicated to me 2-weeks ago, or in the past few days, I wouldn't have even brought the motion here tonight, or even spoke to the matter.  I would've told the individuals to speak to the police services board, and make their presentation there.   I would not have wasted everyone's time here."

The problem stems from Toronto problems, minus the violence, creeping to this area, something the provincial government attempted to address.

A number of councillors wanted clarity, but Councillor Fred Davies interjected.  "This is not the body to which these presentations should be made to. We have a speakers list on which we'll spend a lot of time on, to an issue that we have no authority.  I strongly recommend that this entire process be stopped now."

Councillor Bill Steele suggested the matter be sent to the police services board, and no longer discussed at the region.
