Refurbishing of Generating Station Done

Hydro One spent $135-million to fix up the Sir Adam Beck #2 station in Niagara on the Lake

Completion of the refurbished Sir Adam Beck #2 station in Niagara on the Lake celebrated today.

Hydro One officials, along with Energy Minister Steven Lecce were there, noting the $135-million investment will keep the plant running for another 40 years.

The government predicts demand to increase by 60% by 2050.

Work at this site began in 2016, with the replacement of all switchyard equipment, including circuit breakers, high pressure air system and disconnect switches.

Niagara on the Lake Mayor Gary Zalepa adds this will help reduce the impact of outages.

The government says this transformer station is home to four of the 26 entities Ontario has with neighbouring jurisdictions, and critical for reliability in Ontario and New York.

The province trades, on a regular basis, electricity with neighbouring areas, as it looks to reduce reliance on dirtier forms of energy such as coal.
