PSAC Strike Impacts Peace Bridge

Several hundred picketers slowed truck traffic entering Canada

A few hundred public sector workers have been slowing truck traffic at the Peace Bridge this morning, to pressure the federal government for a deal in their strike.

St. Catharines picket leader Zaineel Braun tells us they've been limiting their access to customs as they enter from the US.

"That's where we are.  We have to stand together, we have to make a statement.  We're letting them [trucks] go through one at a time.  They need to hear us, we need to get that message out, the public needs to support us... there is a lot of energy here right now!" she says.

She adds they arrived in Fort Erie at 7 this morning, and can't say how much longer they'll be there... but as long as it takes.

They're also gathering food donations.  "For COPE, which is Community Operations Program Erie.  We're collecting food donations and monetary donations to support the residents of this region."

The union has been escalating its job action across the country, to demand the government act on its requests for wages keeping up with inflation, as well as work/home life balance.
