Marineland is facing charges for not complying with orders relating to the care of three young black bears
The province is accusing Marineland of not properly caring for three American black bear cubs in its care.
Court documents claim the park didn't give the cubs an adequate water source like pools, streams or ponds, or have a proper filtration system.
Animal Welfare Services, which enforces animal cruelty laws in Ontario, charged the park on Tuesday for not complying with an order relating to care of the cubs.
However, in an email to the Canadian Press, Marineland says it hasn't done anything wrong.
The park is also accused of not giving the animals climbing structures within their enclosure, and not housing them properly between June 18th, 2021, and February 18th, 2022.
The province demanded the park put the bears in a 10,000 foot square enclosure, but Marineland says instead, they released the bears to a sanctuary.
Under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act, inspectors have the authority to issue orders to help animals believed to be in distress.
Facilities that fail to comply with such orders could be fined up to $75,000 or six months in jail.
