Pro-Palestine Rally in Niagara Falls

Organizers say up to 2,000 people showed up, on both sides of the border

Downtown Niagara Falls was a busy place yesterday afternoon as up to 2,000 Palestinian supporters rallied, as well as on the US side.

Organizers say people came from as far as Montreal, calling it the biggest Palestine rally in Niagara since the events of last October, and the biggest cross-border rally in 30 years.

There were people from Hamilton, Milton, the GTA, as well as Jewish and Christian groups from New York.

Mohammed Murad of Niagara Palestine Coalition said "it was an emotional moment for me to watch the two rallies converge on each side of the colonial border, united in our call for a Free and liberated Palestine."

The Canadian side marched from Stanley Avenue, along Highway 420, to the border, and on the US side gathered at Prospect Point Observation Point.

Derek Seidman of Jewish Voice for Peace Buffalo said "we demand an end to the horrific genocide that Isreal, fully backed by the US and Canada, is committing in Gaza."
