OPP caught one driver doing 226kms in 90 zone, also finding loose wheels
A frustrated provincial police force not letting up in getting people to slow down on Ontario highways.
This weekend they pulled a 19-year old driver over in a 90km zone on Highway 11, doing 226kms, something OPP Sergeant Kerry Schimdt says could result in a completely preventable serious collision.
"Street racing, stunt driving, and aggressive driving is the number one killer on our highways right now. We've had about 75 people on die already this year in collisions that were directly attributed to aggressive driving and speeding," he says.
Niagara police suspended one novice driver's licence this weekend, for 3 days, during a RIDE check.
Another very disturbing find Schimdt says they come across is unsafe vehicles with loose wheel nuts. "We see wheel separations not only from commercial trucks, but also passenger vehicles. It doesn't matter if it's a big wheel or a passenger sized wheel, when it's bouncing down the highway towards on-coming traffic, consequences can be absolutely deadly."
He reminds you to tighten the nuts after getting service at a garage.
