Pelham town council has voted to further explore a pedestrian walkway connecting Fonthill to Fenwick, largely along Canboro Road.
A feasibility study to consider options could cost up to $125,000, something that does not sit well with some councillors.
Councillor Shellee Niznik pointed to certain tough areas of road. "The hydro poles are there, I hit one years ago on an icy, stormy day. I know the road is fairly narrow. To be able to build a walkable pathway all the way down, I don't think is feasible."
Councillor Brian Eckhart added this is important for cyclists and the Active Transportation committee.
Deputy Mayor John Wink was concerned about the potential cost in millions, and asked if a fire station is needed over sidewalks, when speaking of priorities.
Mayor Marvin Junkin tried to calm that. "There's a lot of trails in Niagara that have existed, created over many years. It doesn't have to be done all in one shot, for whatever the cost may be."
Council can also apply for a grant of $50,000, to help with the feasibility study.
