The 2019 burn permit will now be valid into 2020 for Pelham residents.
While encouraging social distancing, the Town of Pelham and the Pelham Fire Department has decided to extend the previous permit into the current year.
This is a step to make it easier for isolating people to enjoy the spring weather and fresh air on their own properties.
With businesses closing because of the virus, the 2020 permits are unavailable for purchase.
Fire Chief Bob Lymburner says he understands that people are feeling restless being stuck inside all the time and that this is a change to help the people of Pelham adjust to this time of crisis.
Materials that permit holders (and all residents) are forbidden from burning; household waste, construction debris, plastic, rubber, or any other product which may damage the air, ground, or water quality of the community.
