Patrick Brown disqualified from Conservative leadership race

Brown's campaign team accusing the party of trying to fix the race in favour of Pierre Poilievre,

With just two months to go before the Conservative Party chooses its new leader, the race has one less candidate.

Patrick Brown has been disqualified by the party's leadership election organizing committee.

The bombshell news came in a statement released late last night by the party's leadership election organizing committee, which said Brown was being disqualified from the race after "serious allegations of wrongdoing" related to financing rules.

Brown's campaign said in a statement early this morning that his disqualification is unfounded and an attempt to ensure his rival Pierre Poilievre wins the race.

It added it would consult its legal team.

Last month, the current Brampton Mayor was accused by five city councillors that he was using paid city employees on his leadership campaign during working hours.

Federal Conservatives are set to announce their new leader September 10th.
