The provincial government has passed a bill limiting election advertising by third parties.
Bill 307 was passed by the province, using the notwithstanding clause.
The clause allows legislatures to override portions of the charter for a period of five years.
It was used in order to overrule a decision made by a judge last week, who deemed it unconstitutional for the government to change the pre-election spending period for third party advertisements from six months to one year before an election is called.
The Ford government argued the change was necessary in order to prevent outside influences from having an impact on elections.
