One of Two Men Convicted in Via Rail terror plot in Jordan Station loses appeal

Raed Jaser loses appeal with Ontario Court

Ontario's Court of Appeal has unanimously ruled to uphold the conviction and life sentence of one of the two men found guilty of terrorism charges in a Via Rail terror plot that was to have taken place in the Niagara Region.

Raed Jaser was convicted of planning to derail a passenger train in Jordan Station between Canada and the U-S, and had challenged the outcome of the 2015 trial.

He argued on appeal that the trial judge's refusal to grant him a separate trial from his co-accused compromised the fairness of the proceedings.

But the province's highest court says going ahead with a joint trial did not result in an injustice.
