NRP Warn Sightseers Away From Lake Erie Shore

Niagara Regional Police are asking people to avoid walking on the lake ice in Fort Erie.

Police say they've received information that due to the media attention surrounding the frozen homes along the waterfront, members of the public are coming to the area sightseeing.

With a number of the roads in the area remaining closed or with deep snow, there are reports of vehicles getting stuck, which further hampers the snow-clearing and recovery process.

It’s critical that roadways are left clear for emergency vehicles and for services such as hydro repair.

This weekend’s blizzard, which Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop described as a generational storm, crippled parts of south Niagara, including Fort Erie, Port Colborne and Wainfleet, which all declared a state of emergency.
