NRP Reminding Drivers to Watch Out for Kids

Police conducting back to school safety blitz

The kids are heading back to school today, and police are reminding drivers to keep an eye out for kids.

The Niagara Regional Police Service will conduct its 23rd annual Back to School Traffic Safety and Awareness  Day.

Each year, officers head out to local school zones to watch out for behaviors like seatbelt infractions and distracted driving.

This year, the NRP will focus on the region's 13 Community Safety Zones, which are near schools.

In Community Safety Zones, the fines for offences are higher, and speeding fines are doubled.

Drivers are also reminded to be alert, drive with caution and be mindful of school buses.

Police say over 100 school buses in Niagara have video cameras, and police will be alerted if a car doesn't stop for a loading school bus.
