The Niagara Regional Police Service is teaming up with Canadian Hearing Services on a new initiative to improve communications between officers and deaf or hard of hearing people.
The NRPS says their Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit has created a placard for officers in conjunction with CHS.
Police will keep it in their cruisers or on themselves and use it to communicate with anyone deaf or hard of hearing.
Officers can also access sign language services on any device with an internet connection.
Anyone who is deaf or hard or hearing can pick up a placard at the front desk of any NRP station, in order to let officers know of their disability.
