UPDATE: NRP Arrest Second Suspect in Catalytic Converters Theft

A second suspect has been arrested in an investigation into the theft of catalytic converters in Niagara Falls.

Yesterday, police conducted a search warrant at a home near Drummond Road and Dunn Street. 

As a result of the search, 27-year old Alexander Pidgeon of no fixed address was placed under arrest. 

He has been charged with several offences, including Mischief Over $5,000, Break and Enter Commit Theft, and Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime.

Niagara Regional Police Services has arrested one man in connection to the theft of catalytic converters in the Falls. 

Catalytic converters are part of a car's exhaust system designed to manage pollution. 

Thieves are known to steal them and sell to metal recyclers in exchange for cash. 

Since early last month, detectives from the Niagara Falls Street Crime Unit have been investigating the theft of catalytic converters from parked vehicles in Niagara Falls. 

Two male suspects were identified in relation to four incidents. 

A search warrant  was conducted on February 26th at a home near Summer Street and Morse Avenue in Niagara Falls. 

As a result of the warrant, one of the suspects was placed under arrest. 

Twenty-nine year old Johnathon Murphy of Niagara Falls is facing several charges, including Theft Over $5,000, Break and Enter, three counts of Theft Under $5,000 and five counts of Trafficking in property obtained by crime. 

The second suspect has been identified as 27 year old Alexander John Pidgeon of Thorold. 

He is wanted for numerous offences, including Mischief Over $5000 and Break and Enter. 

Pidgeon is described as white, 5'7" and about 130 pounds. 

He has brown eyes and brown hair. 

Pidgeon has a few tattoos, including a skull on his right forearm, the words "Let it be" on his left forearm, and the words "I'm not" on his abdomen. 

Anyone with knowledge of Pidgeon's location is asked to call  905-688-4111, extension 1009514.

Detectives claim that during the investigation, at least 30 different cars had their catalytic converters cut off. 

All the vehicles targeted had higher suspension systems, e.g. vans and pickup trucks.
