Niagara’s Jobless Rate Continues to Rise

The unemployment rate in Niagara jumped to 9.9 percent last month, but it’s lower than the provincial and national average.

Statistics Canada says Ontario’s rate soared to 11.3 percent in April and the national rate jumped to 13 percent.

Niagara’s rate was sitting at 7.8 percent in March.

This was on par with the national rate, which was also 7.8 percent.

Ontario’s jobless rate was 7.6 percent.

The Canadian economy lost nearly two-million jobs in April.
