Council also comes out in favour of vaccine certificates
Niagara Regional Council has voted in favour of a new vaccination policy for staff.
The Region announcing the policy will require all Regional staff to provide proof that they have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Staff who cannot provide proof of full vaccination will be required to be tested regularly and provide those results.
However, in a media release, the region says medical and human rights exemptions will be recognized and accommodated, but those staff will be required to regularly undergo testing under the new policy.
The same policy applies to any councillors wishing to attend in person meetings, conduct business at regional facilities or attend official events.
The policy is expected to go into effect sometime in mid September
Councillors also voting last night in favour of asking the provincial and federal governments to create a universal proof of vaccination certificate program to make it easy for individuals to provide proof of their current status.
