Niagara Region Staff Offered Opportunity to Learn About Indigenous History

Council votes to mark September 30th by offering educational and training sessions on the history of local Indigenous Peoples.

Niagara will mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Council has voted to mark September 30th by introducing mandatory training sessions on the history of Niagara's Indigenous Peoples, which includes the lessons of the residential school system.

The training will come in the form of three short videos developed by the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre.

Residents are encouraged to mark the day by wearing orange on and leading up to September 30th, and support local Indigenous organizations.

As well, the Region will meet with Indigenous leaders next month to address racism and discrimination in Niagara.
