Proposed public transit model would bring consistent operating hours and fares across Niagara.

Niagara Region wants to hear from you about the future of public transit in the area.

A survey has been launched to gauge residents' thoughts about a proposed consolidated transit system that was developed by Niagara Region based on consultations with all municipalities.

The model suggests a single system that would bring consistent operating hours and fares, new digital payment technology and better connections for public transit users in Niagara.

This fall, a vote on whether or not to adopt the proposal will be made by Niagara Region and all 12 local municipalities.

If both Regional Council and a majority of local councils approve the idea, a Transit Commission Board will be created.

Potential benefits to consolidating transit in Niagara include better access to jobs and services for residents, reduced traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, and the expansion of GO Transit service in Niagara.
