Last year, organ donors saved 37 lives within Niagara Health
Niagara Health is being recognized by Ontario Health (Trillium Gift of Life Network) for its organ and tissue donation efforts.
The organization has received the Hospital Achievement Award - Provincial Conversion Rate for its work.
The province has a goal of having 63 percent of potential organ donors become actual donors, which Niagara Health has exceeded.
"The gift of a transplant is life-altering," says Scott Skrubbeltrang, a kidney recipient. "I can live a normal life now. The simple things mean a lot, and they’re the things most people take for granted."
Last year, Niagara Health supported 16 organ donors, which saved 37 lives.
There were also 97 tissue donors.
Throughout the province, there are about 1,400 Ontarians in need of an organ transplant.
