Niagara Falls Great Place to Live, But...

Survey of 700 people done with Nik Nanos Research showed many consider leaving due to cost of living, but city encouraged to keep developing

It's a good news, not so good news, story for Niagara Falls concerning housing, a place to live and homelessness.

Niagara Association of Realtors Chair Nathan Morrissette revealed a survey of 700 people showed Niagara Falls ranks high as a great place to live.

However, many people consider leaving due to the cost of living.  "While Niagara Falls fared better on this question than other parts of the region, we would point out that 7 in 10 homeowners, and those that identify as boomers, are most likely to be considering leaving, suggesting they are feeling quite frustrated."

But, he commended the city for taking action such as reducing regulatory barriers.

He adds Community Improvement Programs help rental housing.

"2nd, we encourage council to proceed with review of all surplus municipal land for housing suitability as soon as possible.  Surplus land for housing is widely accepted to be a best practice that other municipalities are moving forward with."

He quoted survey results from work done with Nik Nanos research firm.
