Firefighter Aaron Tate receives Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery.
A Niagara Falls firefighter has received a prestigious honour from the province.
Aaron Tate has been named as a recipient of the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery for 2021.
A spokesperson from the Solicitor General's Office says Tate is receiving the award after he entered the Niagara River to help a teenager who slipped into the water in June 2020.
He reached the teen, but was swept away by the current.
Tate was spotted by a rescue boat, and the teen was rescued by helicopter.
He is one of 43 firefighters and police officers being recognized with the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery and the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery.
Speaking at today's ceremony, which celebrated recipients from 2018-2021, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell said all Ontarians owe a debt of gratitude to those receiving the honour.
