Niagara Communities to Benefit From Provincial Transit Investment

Local municipalities to get over $3.5 million for transit

The province has announced an over $379 million investment in transit.

Over 100 municipalities will benefit, including Niagara Falls, Thorold, Fort Erie and St. Catharines.

The province says the money is being delivered through the gas tax program.

Money will be used towards buying vehicles, adding routes, extending service hours, and improving accessibility.

Funds will also be used towards upgrading infrastructure.

Fort Erie will get $216,989, Niagara Falls will get $1,154,169, St. Catharines will get $1,996,616, and Thorold will get $215,997.

"Once again through the gas tax program the government has demonstrated its support for public transit," said Kelly Paleczny, Chair of the Ontario Public Transit Association. "We are very thankful for the funding that will help local transit systems continue to operate and provide high levels of service to the more than one million Ontarians who rely on transit every day."
