Provincial government investing $1,397,179, Niagara Home Builders Association helping
Almost $1.4-million being invested at Niagara College to train more construction workers to build homes.
It's a partnership between the school, Niagara Home Builders Association, and the provincial government.
Fiona Allan is VP of Academics, at Niagara College. "This has really been an important source of funding for us. The Skills Development Fund has enabled us to help 200 skilled Niagara College graduates to enter the construction industry. And we couldn't have done it without the Niagara Home Builders Association."
The money is to focus on the Construction Skills Program, for framing construction and drywall installation and finishing.
"This program is allowing the Niagara Home Builders' Association and Niagara College to continue to develop and train students with the skills they need in order to be job site ready to work their way into building a stable career, while filling the void of the 100,000 workers our industry needs over the next decade," said Chuck McShane, CEO of the Niagara Home Builders' Association.
He adds "Ontario is projected to build 1.5 million homes in the next ten years, and in order to stabilize our housing crisis we simply need more individuals working in the trades."
