Niagara Falls city councillors have deferred making a decision on whether to raise parking fines
Council yesterday asking staff to report back on the amount other municipalities charge drivers for parking violations before making a final decision.
Councillors also are considering putting off any possible increase in the fines until the end of June, due to the economic strains put on residents from the pandemic.
Councillor Lori Loccocco also noting residents feel they are being penalized because tourists have discovered it’s cheaper to get a parking ticket then pay for hotel or special event parking.
However, councillors also pointing out the city hasn’t raised parking fines since 2000.
