New Hotel Complex Replacing Oaks Hotel

Planners tell Niagara Falls officials it'll bring millions in investment, once finished in downtown, along with over 2000 full time jobs, and over 500 part time jobs

Plans are in the works to replace the old Oaks hotel in Niagara Falls with two 58-storey hotel and residential buildings.

City council also approved a 7-storey parking garage a block away on Dixon Street.

City planners pointed to the millions of dollars in private investment and taxes.

Councillor Mike Strange, echoing the excitement of many councillors, called the idea iconic.  "I think that's a great word for it.  I mean, you've got these twin towers overlooking the falls.  I think that's probably the best view of the falls you could have.  Originally that was the only hotel along the skyline years ago."

Planner David Falletta addressed concerns the buildings will be too high, noting changes to city regulations.

"In areas like Burlington and Hamilton... the downtown Hamilton secondary plan, for example, used to have a height cap of 15 storeys.  There are buildings of up to 43 storeys in downtown Hamilton, and that plan existed up to 2018, it was recently updated."

The city was told this will bring over 2,000 full time and 500 part time jobs once done.
