St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens and Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca are calling on the province to pull Russian products from LCBO shelves.
A St. Catharines MPP is calling for the removal of Russian products from LCBO locations.
Jennie Stevens has penned a letter to Premier Doug Ford, asking him to call on the LCBO to remove all Russian products from their shelves in solidarity with Ontario's Ukrainian residents.
"With yesterday’s deadly invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, it is our duty to stand up and condemn these actions in any way possible," Stevens writes. "As you know, Prime Minister Trudeau has announced sanctions against Russia, halting all export permits, and we need to follow suit by immediately halting the import of Russian goods to government run entities, such as the LCBO."
Stevens says while she appreciates the financial support Ontario has offered to Ukraine, more can be done to restrict Russia's trade.
Meanwhile, Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca has written a letter to the LCBO President and CEO Dr. George Soleas, saying removing Russian products is one way to send a message to President Vladimir Putin.
"Our allies in Ukraine are under attack by Russia and need our help. Pulling Russian vodka from the shelves of the LCBO is an immediate action Ontario can take to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Ukraine."
The LCBO sells several products from Russia.
