Man Attacks Police, Hospital Staff

It happened in St. Catharines, after police were called concerning an unwanted man in the city

A violent struggle between Niagara regional police and a man at St. Catharines hospital has led to assault charges, and minor injuries.

Police say it started late Monday morning, when they were called to the Ontario Street and Chapleau Gate area concerning an unwanted man, who voluntarily was taken to hospital.

However, police were called back to the hospital before 4pm, to find the man attacking a hospital staff member.

Police say when one of their own tried to arrest him, he violently fought back, requiring additional officers, security guards and hospital staff.

Police have charged 34-year old Alexandre Gratton of St. Catharines:

  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Assault X 2

He had a bail hearing yesterday, and was released with conditions to follow.

Those who were hurt were treated for minor injuries.
