Opposition NDP calling out Ford government for cutting billions
Niagara’s NDP MPPs have reacted to the provincial budget announcement saying it cuts billions and fails to address the housing affordability crisis in Niagara,
Jennie Stevens, Jeff Burch, Wayne Gates and NDP candidate Dave Augustyn pointing out the Tory spending plan includes over $2 billion in cuts to education, post secondary education, social services and justice.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates adding, "this budget misses the most important thing, making life affordable."
The $160 billion dollar spending plan does include a big ticket item for Niagara.
As part of the government's $25 billion dollar commitment to improving highways in the province, the Tories say they will green light plans to twin the Garden City Skyway.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says in addition his party is also committed to delivering increased service between Union Station in Toronto and Niagara by way of the Niagara GO Rail Extension.
And he notes the budget also includes money to build a new hospital on the site of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
The budget which will serve as the Ford government's election platform is not expected to be passed until after the June 2nd election.
