Local MPP Pushing for AC in Schools

Wayne Gates was at a Niagara Falls school, where he says teachers say it's hard to breathe

Niagara Falls MPP is trying to get action for students and teachers enduring class in this heat and humidity.

Wayne Gates stood in front of Simcoe Street Public school recently, where he gave the stark reality inside where there's no air conditioning.

"It's over 100 degrees in the rooms.  I talked to the teachers, and they're telling me they can hardly breathe in their classrooms.  I'm saying let's all work together, let's find a way that we can make sure that when our kids go to learn in their classrooms they're not exposed to incredible heat."

Local school union president Brian Barker says if it's not acceptable to hospitals and government buildings to endure this heat inside, then why should kids at school.

"No student, no teacher, should have to go to school and have to learn in these types of conditions.  It's absolutely wrong in the province of Ontario, let's get it fixed, let's work together.  This is not a partisan issue." said Gates.

The Ford government has stated it's already spent millions to improve school ventilation, and it's up to school boards to follow heating protocols.
