Three local credit unions are getting involved with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.

In the spirit of National Co-op Week and tomorrow's Credit Union Day, the Meridian Credit Union, FirstOntario Credit Union and and PenFinancial Credit Union are providing financial support to the event.

PenFinancial is co-sponsoring the 2022 Canada Games Catch the Spirit Educational and Mascot programs.

The program consists of a presentation that educates students from kindergarten to grade 8 about Indigenous Peoples, the Canada Games, and turtles (in homage to this year's turtle mascot).

"The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games have provided us a unique opportunity to participate in a way that is meaningful to each of our organizations," said Ken Janzen, CEO of PenFinancial Credit Union. "So, while we have all chosen to step up in different ways, we can all be proud to know that our collective efforts will ultimately benefit the Games, and our community."

FirstOntario is financially supporting the 13 for 13 Cultural Festival, which will be held August 7th-20th next year.

Each of Niagara's municipalities will showcase the cultural heritage of one of the country's provinces and territories during the festival.

The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games will be held August 6th to 21st.

Details are available here.

As well, the Meridian Credit Union is sponsoring the volunteer program, which will involve 4,500 volunteers involved with the Games.

On Monday, the 2022 Canada Games volunteer registry will open.
