Holiday Waste Collection Returning to Niagara

Residents will be able to put out four bags of trash without tags on their first garbage pickup day after Christmas

With Christmas and New Year's Day both falling on a Sunday this year, the Niagara Region says there won't be any changes to the curbside collection schedule.

Households may put out two extra bags or cans of garbage on their first garbage collection day after Christmas.

Residents in single-family homes and apartments with six units or less will be able to put out four bags of trash.

Garbage collection will take place as follows:

  • Dec. 26-30: Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Pelham, St. Catharines, Thorold, Wainfleet and West Lincoln
  • Jan. 2-6: Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne and Welland

All materials need to be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.

If your property is an industrial, commercial, institutional or mixed-use building in St. Catharines that receives collection on Sunday, your regular collection will take place on Monday, December 26th and Monday, January 2nd.

Meanwhile, Christmas tree collection will take place January 9th to the 13th for residents in single family homes or apartments with six units or less.

Residents should be aware of the following:

  • Place tree at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day
  • Remove all ornaments and decorations
  • Christmas trees wrapped in plastic, or buried in snow, or placed on top of snow banks will not be collected
  • No artificial trees, these can be booked separately for large item collection
